Keir Starmer's Labour Party Leadership

Elected as Leader in 2020

Keir Rodney Starmer KCB KC was elected as the Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition in April 2020. He became the first Labour leader to lead a majority government since Clement Attlee in 1945, and the first to be born in Wales since Neil Kinnock.

Leadership Goals

Starmer stated that it was an "honour and privilege" to lead the Labour Party and that he would "do [his] utmost to guide us through these difficult times". His leadership has focused on rebuilding the party's popularity after a series of electoral defeats.
