Arbitrum Orbit Supports USDC Gas Fees
Arbitrum Collaborates with Circle to Enhance Gas Token Options
Bridged USDC Now Supported as Custom Gas Token on Arbitrum Orbit
Arbitrum, a prominent Layer-2 scaling solution, has partnered with stablecoin issuer Circle to enable the use of bridged USD Coin (USDC) as a custom gas token on its Orbit infrastructure. This development empowers developers building on Arbitrum Orbit to support USDC, the second-largest stablecoin by market capitalization.
Arbitrum's latest blog post highlights the integration, emphasizing the significance of bridged USDC's support as a gas token. With over 16 billion USDC natively deployed on Arbitrum, this move aims to streamline gas payment processes, enhancing the overall user experience.
The key requirement for a custom gas token is that it must be an ERC-20 token natively deployed on the Arbitrum network. Orbit provides a permissionless environment where developers can effortlessly launch their own customized chains, further expanding the ecosystem's scalability and adaptability.
