Irish Defense Brought the Heat | Irish Spotlight: Game 3 at Purdue | Notre Dame Football

Notre Dame Football brings their A-game to West Lafayette

Notre Dame (2-0) will travel to West Lafayette, Indiana to face the No. 22-ranked Purdue Boilermakers (1-1) at Ross-Ade Stadium for their Week 3 matchup. The Irish look to remain undefeated on the season after an impressive 45-32 win over Toledo last Saturday. Purdue enters the contest with a 30-21 loss to No. 12 Penn State in their first game of the season, and a 56-0 win over Indiana State in their last.

The Irish were led by sophomore quarterback Drew Pyne, who threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns. However, the Irish defense was stout, limiting Toledo to a mere 331 total yards. Notre Dame forced 2 turnovers and registered 8 tackles for loss. The Irish defense will look to continue their strong play, especially against a Purdue offense that struggled last week against Penn State.

A deeper look at last game's defensive unit

Notre Dame’s defense was a force to be reckoned with against Toledo. The unit allowed just 269 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers. The defense recorded a total of 10 tackles for loss which is an impressive number, and 3 sacks. The defense was led by Isaiah Foskey who had 3 tackles for loss and a sack in the first quarter. Cam Hart added eight tackles and a forced fumble.

The Irish defense will need to continue to play at a high level against Purdue. The Boilermakers have a talented offense led by quarterback Aidan O’Connell. O’Connell threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns in their loss to Penn State. Purdue also has a solid running game led by King Doerue. The Irish defense will need to be physical and disciplined to stop the Boilermakers' offense.
