Djokovic, Medvedev, and Tsitsipas Reach Quarterfinals

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, No. 2 Daniil Medvedev, and No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to the quarterfinals of the ATP Shanghai Masters on Thursday. Djokovic defeated Karen Khachanov 6-4, 6-3, Medvedev overcame Fabio Fognini 6-3, 7-6(4), and Tsitsipas beat Marton Fucsovics 6-3, 6-4.

Nadal and Federer Withdraw

However, the tournament suffered a major blow with the withdrawals of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Nadal, the 2019 champion, pulled out due to a left hand injury, while Federer cited a back injury. Their absences leave a significant void in the field, but it also provides an opportunity for other players to shine.

Djokovic Rolls On

Djokovic continued his impressive form, breaking Khachanov's serve twice in each set to secure the victory. The Serbian is now 17-1 this season, including winning the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. He will face Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals, a rematch of their 2019 Shanghai final which Djokovic won.

Medvedev Extends Winning Streak

Medvedev extended his winning streak to 14 matches, grinding out a tough victory against Fognini. The Russian saved a set point in the second set and overcame a 4-1 deficit in the tiebreaker. He will face Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals, who upset No. 7 seed Roberto Bautista Agut.

Tsitsipas Impresses

Tsitsipas continued to impress, reaching the quarterfinals in Shanghai for the third time in four appearances. The Greek overcame a slow start to defeat Fucsovics, breaking his serve four times. He will face Djokovic in a highly anticipated quarterfinal clash.

Quarterfinal Matchups Set

The quarterfinals of the ATP Shanghai Masters are set, with the top three seeds remaining in contention. Djokovic will face Tsitsipas, Medvedev will play Rublev, No. 5 Alexander Zverev will take on No. 8 Matteo Berrettini, and No. 6 Dominic Thiem will meet No. 12 Diego Schwartzman.
